In a global study, Gallup assessed the aspects of life that mattered most to people all over the world and were the hallmarks of a life well lived. At the conclusion of the study, the research identified 5 aspects that are most important and that we have to power to influence ourselves. These universal elements are our Career Wellbeing, Social Wellbeing, Financial Wellbeing, Physical Wellbeing, and Community Wellbeing. At Excelas, we strive to help our employees excel on all of these fronts, through activities and programs offered throughout the year.
1. Career Wellbeing
We work to identify each employee’s strengths and help them find ways to use their strengths every day. We offer cross-training, opportunities to take on team- or project-lead roles, and opportunities for professional development.
2. Social Wellbeing
We regularly provide opportunities for social time with the people and teams you enjoy being around at work. Annually, Excelas offers a company anniversary party, three Thirsty Thursday networking socials during the summer, a family-focused summer event, and a holiday party.
3. Financial Wellbeing
Excelas offers competitive pay, a safe harbor 401k, health savings account, and more. Beyond the usual benefits though, Excelas regularly includes speakers on financial topics at our staff meetings. Past presentations have included retirement planning, estate planning, how to take advantage of low interest rates, and more.
4. Physical Wellbeing
Our award-winning Wellness Team provides a number of opportunities to engage in wellness-boosting activities, including tai chi or yoga sessions held during our staff meetings, and healthy recipe potluck lunches. Annually, we engage employees in a fitness challenge—our Walk Out of Work program—that encourages each employee to take more than 10,000 steps a day. Successfully completing the challenge earns up to 24 hours of additional paid time off! We offer opportunities to purchase fresh veggie baskets once a month through a local CSA program, a treadmill desk to get some exercise in on the days you work in the office, and the flexibility to engage in your favorite physical activity if you are working from home. We invite wellness speakers to present at our staff meetings throughout the year, provide free flu shots and health assessments, and offer discounted memberships to select fitness centers. Our wellness program has won the Wellness@Work Award as well as the Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite Award.
5. Community Wellbeing
Extending the positive impact we have on another person, group, or community is a priority for Excelas. We encourage employees to share their causes and charitable activities with the staff, and often these causes are selected for a company outreach event or activity. This can involve volunteering your time, fundraising, or contributing via donations. Annually, we conduct a canned food drive in the fall and a holiday gift drive for children in need. These, and other programs, have supported organizations like Saint Paschal Baylon Helping Hands Ministry, Beechbrook, Project Night Night, The Gathering Place, WomenSafe, and more. We also offer a Community Service PTO program where eligible employees can earn PTO in exchange for community service hours.
